#16. Judy Garland
Real Name: Frances Ethel Gumm
Judy Garland was born Frances Ethel Gumm. She and her sisters formed The Gumm Trio in the 1930s, and they performed their way across the vaudeville circuit. But crowds in Chicago supposedly laughed at the young girls because their last name was Gumm. So, they swapped it out for Garland. And young Frances changed her first name to Judy inspired by a then-popular tune by Hoagy Carmichael. The rest, as they say, is history.
