Natalie Portman was actually born Neta-Lee Hershlag in Israel. But according to Harper's Bazaar, she dropped her given name after moving to the U.S. in 1984. Neta-Lee had an easy swap in Natalie, while the entire Hershlag family opted to change their surname. They went with their maternal grandmother's maiden name: Portman.
