Spike Lee's parents originally named their son Shelton Lee. But it was his mother who ended up changing it to the moniker we know today, according to Harper's Bazaar. She apparently noticed that her baby boy was pretty tough and started calling him Spike. Lee's mom couldn't have known that she gave him the perfect name to become a widely known and revered Hollywood director.
